More Updates on Hurricane Helene and ILA Strike
We at Delta have been following the news regarding hurricane Helene to gage it's impact on routes and availability. Please be aware that at this time we are no longer moving any shipments to the west coast of Florida until the storm passes.
In response to Helene, Florida International Terminal(FIT) sent out an alert stating that they will be closing at noon, today September 26th, 2024 "for the safety of the drivers and our terminal staff." FIT will resume regular working hours Friday and has extended open hours into the weekend in anticipation of the upcoming strike.
*FIT has also released its contingency plan in the case of the expected ILA worker's strike*
Vessel Operations: FIT will cease any vessel operations at 1800 on Monday, the 30th. All vessels must depart at that time.
Refrigerated Cargo: FIT will not be liable for any live reefer containers remaining at the terminal during a labor disruption. FIT strongly recommends picking up all live reefers before 1600 hours on the 30th. Remaining reefers will be plugged in but not monitored.
Export Cargo: FIT will not be accepting any export cargo for vessels scheduled for the week of October 1st.
Gate Operation: FIT will continue to operate the gate seven days a week. Please note that the cut-off time for Saturday and Sunday gate operations is 1400.
Demurrage: Containers in free time at time of labor disruption will stay in free time until the terminal is open again for deliveries. Containers that are already in demurrage will remain in demurrage.
In the event of a work stoppage, all operations — including gate, vessel, and yard activities — will be halted. During this period, access to containers and equipment will be unavailable. We will communicate all updates as necessary. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
*And so has the Port of Miami(POMTOC)*
We will continue to advise on incoming news as we receive it. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Much love and stay safe
